The Language of Light: The Art of Enamel in SOVRAN
There is something sacred about watching light move through colour.
For me, that is the essence of enamel, the meeting point between fire and glass, between fragility and strength, between patience and transformation.
When I first began working with enamel, I did not see it as a surface technique. It felt like a conversation with light itself. I realised that through enamel, I could paint with transparency and depth, allowing illumination to live inside the metal rather than on top of it. It became a language I could never speak with words.
A Dialogue Between Fire and Form
Enamel is the art of fusing powdered glass onto metal through heat. Each layer is fired in a kiln, melting and bonding to the surface beneath it.
It is a process that demands precision, surrender, and respect for time.
Every firing is an act of trust. The kiln becomes a kind of oracle, revealing colours that shift and evolve with each moment of heat. A few seconds too long can change everything, yet those moments of risk are where beauty often appears.
In the studio, I work in silence when I fire enamel. There is no shortcut. The rhythm of layering, firing, cooling, and refining teaches patience and humility. It is a reminder that mastery is not control but relationship between the maker, the flame, and the material.
The Symbolism of Light
In SOVRAN, enamel represents more than technique. It carries meaning.
The light that passes through plique-à-jour or translucent enamel is symbolic of inner radiance, the light that persists even when surrounded by boundaries.
I have always been drawn to the architecture of windows in Persian palaces and mosques. The way sunlight filters through coloured glass, creating patterns on stone floors, feels almost divine. That play of shadow and illumination mirrors the human experience: the search for light within structure, freedom within form.
Through enamel, I bring that same essence into jewellery. Each piece becomes a small architecture of light, a fragment of window, a reflection of sky, a memory of something sacred.
The Alchemy of Colour
The colours I choose are rarely decorative. They carry emotion and narrative.
Turquoise speaks of protection and peace. Deep blue recalls the Persian night sky. Gold and amber evoke warmth and divinity.
When light enters these colours, it changes them. The piece becomes alive, shifting with the body, responding to every movement. It feels as though the jewellery breathes with the wearer, glowing differently with each moment.
That is why I call enamel the language of light.
It is not static or fixed. It moves, transforms, and reveals new truths every time it is seen.
A Bridge Between Heritage and Innovation
The technique of enamelling has existed for centuries across cultures, but in my practice it carries a personal lineage.
In Persian art, colour and geometry were not mere decoration. They were expressions of divine order and reflections of the cosmic balance.
When I work with enamel, I feel connected to that lineage, yet I also bring it into dialogue with modern design, 3D technology, and my own imagination.
Each piece of SOVRAN is both ancient and contemporary, a meeting of craftsmanship and innovation, of memory and reinvention.
Light as a Symbol of Sovereignty
For me, light is the truest symbol of sovereignty.
It cannot be owned, contained, or diminished. It moves freely, finding its way through even the smallest opening.
Every enamelled piece I create carries this message. It is a reminder that beauty and resilience are often born from fire, that illumination is a choice, and that the light within us is our greatest source of power.
In SOVRAN, enamel is more than material. It is spirit. It is the meeting of earth and flame, colour and consciousness.
It is my way of saying that the light you seek is already within you
